First thing you notice after installing iOS 7 beta (released straight after WWDC 13′) is that the battery drains like never before.
Whilst this is a beta version and you shouldn’t really use it on your primary device… A lot of us do want to use it as a daily driver. Unfortunately, the rate of battery drain would make it almost impossible to use it in that capacity.
Well, I found a simple fix – Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and under ‘Automatic Downloads’ section and turn off Apps, Updates and you could do the same for Music, iBooks as well (as I did) but the “new feature” of auto-updating apps seems to make the iPhone, a battery hungry zombie.
You can also disable Control Center / Notifications on lock screen which constantly eats battery when sleeping, Go to Settings > Notifications Center and under Access on lock screen section disable the options, similar action under Settings > Control Center. I also found turning off Settings > General > Background App Refresh helps.
I have been using couple of days after switching auto updates off and I noticed a massive difference in the battery usage – it’s still not as good as 6.1.4 but definitely more usable for a day-to-day use. Enjoy!
